Azure vs GCP vs AWS Part – II

The last blog explained about Amazon Web Services was and how it changed the direction of the cloud technologies. It was the leading platform in cloud computing until it was rivalled by Microsoft with its cloud platform introduction in 2011.

Azure

Azure is the cloud service platform developed by Microsoft. Even though it was launched several years later than AWS, it has evolved into a reputable cloud service provider, having sufficient resources to match AWS cloud platform. In terms of computing, Azure uses Virtual Hard Disks (VHD) to create Virtual Machines (VMs) to help deploy applications on the cloud. Another unique feature of AWS and Azure is that both of them are able to handle large-scale parallel batch computing for custom software. When it comes to storage, like AWS S3, Azure offers its core Azure Storage service, Azure Blob block storage. It also offers Site Recovery, Import Export and Azure Backup.

One interesting feature of Azure is that it provides native integration for windows development tools such as VBS, SQL database. Since Azure is developed by Microsoft, Those using Windows will find it more easy to Azure, therefore, will prefer it than other cloud platforms. Because of its extensive windows support capability, If anything other than Windows Server is needed to run, then Azure might not be the best solution, but still, Microsoft has been willing to support Open Source Platforms.

Google Cloud

Google entered into the cloud industry in 2008 with the introduction of its App Engine for cloud-based services. Today it is one of the competing cloud computing platforms against AWS and Azure. Using the App Engine allows an app developer to create applications without dealing with the server.

Google Cloud platform has a great reputation in the Open Source community. Google Cloud Platform uses the Google Cloud Engine (GCE) for delivery of Virtual machines in Google’s data centres. Google cloud is best preferred for building containers. One such example is Kubernetes. When it comes to security features Google Cloud Platform uses the FortiGate next-generation firewall which provides advanced security and firewall measures.

The Verdict

All the three cloud platforms offer similar features while in some cases each of them stands out due to its unique features. Choosing the right cloud service platform from these three is not an easy task. All three cloud platforms are efficient, popular, reliable and secure. It only depends on which one we choose and how it is used.
