The Right DevOps Tools and your Organization Part 2

In this blog, we are continuing to talking phases of DevOps and the tools which helps it make each of phases easy to transition out of. The tools are mentioned here are of nuanced nature they are made with DevOps in mind. As mentioned in the previous blog, tools are an important part of DevOps. In this blog, we will go through some tools which are used in the remaining phases of DevOps.

Continuous Integration

This is a process where codes are continuously tested and continuously integrated with the original program, the changes and addition are carefully monitored and tracked. This leads to early detections of errors and bugs. An important which happens during this phase is that of automated testing, given the sheer number of updates and new features added to the program. It is important that the program retains its stability and reliability. The reason why automated testing is preferred for DevOps is due to their dependability and their speed.

Deployment

One of the important phase of the entire DevOps process, the engineers involved in the process need to have a lot of data about the changes in the codes, the environments, pull request and more. This where collaboration tools can make all the difference, reports and messages from multiple engineers can be tracked, monitored and appropriate decisions can be made as a response.

When it comes to automating the deployment process, its own complexities arise. Tools like Chef and Puppet help to overcome these obstacles by automating a lot of the otherwise mundane and repetitive tasks associating with orchestrating environments.

Operations

This phase consists of server health monitoring, application performance tracking, and issue redressals. This phase uses a number of different tools and resources, some of the well-known applications for monitoring are DataDog, Pagerduty, Scout and more. When it comes to issue redressal, organizations need collaboration tools which need to custom made to DevOps process. The individuals in the group need to be on the same page when it comes to problem-solving. Having access to reports from tracking tools, and testing tools, engineers can at least have a sense where to start looking for.

Feedback

No one judges your better than the end user while listening to each and every feedback may seem like a waste of time. But, in the long run, improving an application which keeps itself with the latest trend and addresses the user’s issue is actually the least expensive way to stay competitive. Every piece of feedback should be analyzed and stored, tools like GetFeedback, SurveyMonkey and Hootsuite can help organizations to make customer-oriented applications and services.
