Azure vs GCP vs AWS Part – I

Cloud computing, the most widely used and popular technology all over the world. Cloud services range from storing and processing of data, monitoring for alerts, building and deploying applications as functions and much more. The reason behind the success of the cloud is many advantages which are faster access to data and cost-effectiveness. When it comes to selecting a cloud platform, there are literally multiple choices and it is not an easy task. Clouds are typically classified into two types: Public & Private. The current cloud computing market is dominated by three main cloud platform provides namely Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Most of these cloud service providers are public, Well it’s obvious. Private clouds are the ones that are managed by the organisation itself for maintaining confidential files. All three cloud service providers share the common elements of a public cloud i.e self-service and instant provisioning, autoscaling, security and more. Even though there are other competitive players in the cloud service providers, they just cannot overcome the popularity of these three public cloud providers. Let us breakdown about each cloud platform and what makes them worthy and most suited for an organisation.

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

AWS is the cloud service platform of Amazon.Inc. Launched officially in 2006, it is currently the oldest long-running cloud platform and the most preferred by many organisations and streaming services like Netflix. EC2, EB2 and S3 are the three important features of AWS. One of the biggest reasons for adopting AWS is its experience in the cloud industry for more than 10 years. In order to stay up to date, AWS Developers continuously update their computing technologies.

In terms of computing, AWS EC2 core computing services to configure VM (Virtual Machines) with the use of pre-configured AMIs. AWS provides long-term storage facilities using Simple Storage Services (S3) Object storage service. For virtual networking, AWS uses a Virtual Private Cloud. One interesting feature of AWS is the pricing method, the services in AWS are charged hourly and only we need to only pay for what we use. AWS was the leading player in cloud computing until it faced a new rival in 2011.

Stay tuned to know what it was. This blog will be continued in Part-II.
